Deciding to Adopt
Deciding to adopt was something that came quite easy for us. I've always had a passion for Africa in general and felt something in my heart for that country. Whether it's their beautiful wildlife or feeling for their poverty and struggle they go through every day. To me, it was a pretty clear cut decision, didn't surprise me at all. I've never really wanted to get pregnant and have a baby. It seems unnecessary to me when there are babies out there waiting for a good, loving home. Chaske came around to the idea quite easily as well. He always said he wanted to have a child, but once I started mentioning to him that I feel much more inclined to adopt rather than have one, it didn't take him long to come around to it. He's really excited about it now and has even started reading!! However, he doesn't want to completely outrule having a bio-baby someday. He agrees when I said I'd like to have our Ethiopian baby first, so that they don't even feel left out, or like they are a second choice. They came first, we chose them, not because we couldn't get pregnant, but because adoption is our FIRST choice. We both think that's important. So that's us in a nutshell as to how we came to this conclusion to adopt. Ethiopia was such a clean choice for us as their people and culture are so interesting and beautiful. I don't feel this way for other countries...maybe someday, but not now :)
